Remember the R-Pi does not have a real time clock that keeps time
when the board is powered off. Some communications expect some
notion of correct wall clock time and timezone. Some possible clock
chips and a battery or capacitor backup power source are inexpensive.

Others can give feedback and help decide if you do or do not not need
a clock but that alone will get
some sales. It can allow a R-Pi to be a secureish local NTP time
server resource in some networks
where a GPS board cannot see the sky.
