Chrome has flagged http sites as "Not Secure" for the past year.  I
believe that other browser makers plan to do the same, and it's only
a matter of time until non-https sites get the kind of scary warnings
you now get from sites with the wrong certificate.

If they don't care if anyone uses their site, sure, stick with http.
Otherwise, pay the $0.00 to Let's Encrypt.
