Bitcoin mining accomplishes two useful tasks:<p>

1) continual consistency checking of the entire blockchain and<p>

2) mining lottery winners extend the blockchain & collect modest fee<p>

Task #1 -- together with Bitcoin address identification -- makes transaction tracing trivial.<p>
