SwissMicros has some HP like calculators.
An individual could code up some interesting key/ access management
stuff on this hardware. To start just native HP-41 programming
but there is a way to update the firmware and perhaps go nuts.
A real-time clock and saved program allows some interesting stuff.
A USB cable allows a 'larger' machine to type and enter code on.
>From the web site:
"The DM41 is a clone of the HP-41CX including a real-time clock.
"The alphanumeric LCD screen of the HP-41C revolutionized the way a
calculator could be used, providing user friendliness (for its time)
and expandability (keyboard-unassigned functions could be spelled out
alphabetically). By using an alphanumeric display, the calculator
could tell the user what was going on: it could display meaningful
error messages ('ZERO DIVIDE') instead of simply a blinking zero; it
could also specifically prompt the user for arguments ('ENTER RADIUS')
instead of just displaying a question mark."

Disclaimer:
I happen to be an RPN-HP calculator fan and am trying to convince
myself I need one ;-)
As hardware+buttons+display goes this is inexpensive.
