The "perfect programmer" assumption has always been bad news.  Now that I am working on open-source productivity software hawked to casual users, I find the "perfect user" assumption to be an even-worse companion.

It had not occurred to me, until this thread, how they are beautifully-entwined in a paradigm of magical thinking.  That's not new; it seems exacerbated by today's digital technologies.
