I've worked on a Big/Little SoC: they have hardware that automagically 
maintains cache coherency between different clusters and different 
cores. I forget the details, and they are detailed, but I seem to 
remember that in Linux a lot of cache management macros turn to no-ops. 
Another example of your data multiplying out there, or at least 
multiplying on-chip.
