I don't want to start a flame war, but I am interested in the
best estimates in 2025 of the state of American knowledge in
December, 1941 of Japanese intentions.

1. Did the Japanese fleet EVER break radio silence after leaving
port before the Dec 7th attack ?

2. Did any of the decrypted intercepts from Japan during the
proceeding months provide any hint of a coming attack on the U.S.
?

E.g., if the Japanese fleet broke radio silence, the
transmissions could have been triangulated, even if they could not
be decrypted.

I understand that the Japanese may have spoofed *fake*
transmissions, to confuse anyone listening about the real location
of the various Japanese warships.

I'm not interested in wild-eyed conspiracy theories, but what the
best available evidence says today (in 2025).
