I also do this, and I'm also not Satoshi.
I remember a video where a comedian explained she does it because "I'm
not an animal", but I can't find it now :( I always think of that video
when this topic comes up.
There's a better reason to do this than "learned to touch-type", though
mentioning it risks starting a flame war: it disambiguates sentence-
ending periods from acronym periods. IMO it's a very basic bit of
markup/markdown that typesetting software should support by turning
those double spaces into wide single spaces.
