I think that was, and still is, true. I've been amazed that
so many academic cryptographers were ok with NIST running a
PQC competition in such close temporal proximity to dual-ec.
For me, that implies we ought trust cryptographers for the
skills they demonstrate, (that I do not possess), but not
specially for general wisdom.
