Getting deep into the metaphors here, but this isn’t necessarily the case.  Sometimes, one writes (or speaks out loud) simply as a way of organizing one’s thoughts. There’s no intent, or particular use, in going back to read or hear those words again.

There have been a number of recent articles about Thomas Jefferson.  Like many in his time, he kept a daily diary - in which most of the entries recorded the simple minutia of daily life.  Of course, some of the entries were about moments of great historical importance (and some are rather horrendous to our ears - say about the great price he got on a slave), which is why historians examine them. But I think it’s unlikely that Jefferson himself spent any significant time re-reading his diaries, which is I suspect true of most diaries.
