It's not really useful for #2. Unless you want the handful of mostly illegal
things you can buy with cryptocurrency, you need to cash it out. Probably that
uses a stablecoin which means you depend on the stablecoin actually having the
assets it claims it does, and being willing to transfer them to a real bank
account you control.
But more to the point, #2 is actually banking without KYC or AML. I have some
sympathy for claims that cryptocurrency makes it possible for a farmer in
Afghanistan to sell her crop to international buyers, but considerably less
sympathy since the crop is heroin.
