Here is an update from two hours ago, quoting
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/liberty-safe-responds-to-backlash-as-anger
-grows-over-giving-fbi-code/ar-AA1gniHp
"Gun safe manufacturer Liberty Safe has said its customers will now be able
to have the records of their safe combinations "expunged" after the company
faced growing backlash for handing over the access code to one safe to the
FBI. Liberty Safe customers will be able to fill out a form to have records
of their safe access codes deleted, meaning they can "take control of how
their information is stored and protected," the manufacturer said in a
statement on Wednesday evening."
The most likely end-result of all of this, I suspect, is encapsulated in the
title of the web page at
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/safe-company-under-fire-for-giving
-customers-access-code-to-fbi-enjoy-bankruptcy-traitors/ar-AA1gluqI
"Safe Company Under Fire for Giving Customer's Access Code to FBI: 'Enjoy
Bankruptcy, Traitors'"
Because Liberty Safe's competitors (e.g. Champion Safe) has been bombarded
with calls from dealers to sell alternative products instead of Liberty
Safe, see

@libertysafeinc:
"On August 30, 2023, Liberty Safe was contacted by the FBI requesting the
access code to the safe of an individual for whom they had a warrant to
search their property. Our company protocol is to provide access codes to
law enforcement if a warrant grants them access to a property. After
receiving the request, we received proof of the valid warrant, and only then
did we provide them with an access code. Liberty Safe had no knowledge of
any of the details surrounding the investigation at the time.
"Liberty Safe is devoted to protecting the personal property and 2nd
amendment rights of our customers and has repeatedly denied requests for
access codes without a warrant in the past. We do not give out combinations
without proper legal documentation being provided by authorities.
"We regularly update our policies to ensure both compliance with federal and
state law and reasonable consumer privacy protections within the law. First
and foremost, Liberty Safe is committed to preserving our customers' rights,
and we will remain unwavering in those values. "
Their customer base reacted as you can imagine to this news, with over 3,500
responses to this post in less than 12 hours. I haven't done an exhaustive
search of the replies but I haven't found a single one that took this news
well. The combination of most Liberty Safes is electronic in nature; the
combination can be set by the user. This means that, at least from my
vantage, that this can't merely be a backup of the combination but some sort
of backdoor that is programmed in.
