I find it much, much, much more shocking that some people trust the
network. Even if the transport was secure, the nodes (routers) aren't. So
leave the transport in plain and save some cycles.

There's some issues with controlling who uses your network, especially for
WiFi. WPA2 kinda solves that part though.

Use HTTPS. There's no real choice. (If we could just somehow regain
independent publishing rights, that'd be great! HTTPS should not regulate
access to the hosting a website, and it kind of does now.)
