Data point: I still have my old "Cyber Rights Now!" t-shirt, with a 
raised fist clutching lighting bolts on one side, and on the other side 
an observing eye and apology from the NSA about being behind schedule 
for 1984.

At least with some of us, their reputation was terrible by 1984.
