roughly downed machines or various color and stripe; scratched 
allocations on a filesystem; hiberlated images; more all 
readily come to mind.  understood that the OS is not directly 
complicit at the time of allocation, but at the time of 
de-allocation for purposes of efficiency, the OS is clearly in 
the mix
